Updates and a New Prototype!
April 25, 2015 by Corey
Hey folks, it’s been a while since I posted which sucks but I’m making an effort to keep this a regular thing. Ya know, for sanity. I do come bearing gifts though! Full disclosure, I missed March’s 1 game a month entry and it tore me up a bit…and then I got mad. More like crazy; I challenged myself to make 100 prototypes in one weekend and took off. Obviously I didn’t make 100, that was dumb — I did however make 3:
- Pong — I used the skeleton from Blockbreaker v.2 and turned it into a multiplayer game controlled by WASD & the directional keys.
- Nameless Platformer — This one was built off of the 1 game in a day course I took at Playcrafting NYC. You play as a little orange dude and jump your way to the final platform, which wins you the game.
- Jeopardy: Final Fantasy Edition — This game was technically from scratch, I say technically because some of these assets and skills iterate on each other. I wanted to make something that demonstrated my love for the FF series and there you have it. The game is meant to be played with 2+ people and a host/moderator.
So that was a productive weekend. I need to try ridiculous things more often. I even updated Blockbreaker!
You can find J:FFE on my itch.io page; I’ve only uploaded J:FFE because I think I can do a little bit more to flesh out the platformer and pong? well who doesn’t know what pong looks like? Which brings me to hosting! I’m now hosting my games on itch.io. It a great website for finding and showcasing games, so that’s where I’m at.
So that’s it for now. Next time I do something awesome I’ll make sure to write about it.
P.S. I volunteered at G4C this week for their massive festival and met some really awesome people. I love these festivals. Game dev is an inherently singular experience so it’s nice talking shop with real live human beings.
